It’s full speed ahead to the finish line for the Salmon Run Series, with lots in store for the final race Wednesday, Aug. 5. You don’t want to miss this!
Finish the series with a barbecue, and meet special guest, Alaska Olympian Holly Brooks! As part of the Healthy Heroes program, Holly is traveling the state, promoting healthy activities and lifestyles. She’ll be at the final Salmon Run Series race at 6 p.m. Wednesdaybehind Skyview Middle School, and you should be too!

“Who is this Holly Brooks,” you say? Well…
While coaching full time at the Alaska Pacific University nordic ski program, Holly surprised many by qualifying to ski at the 2010 Winter Olympics. She then focused on competitive skiing and returned to the 2014 Sochi Olympics. Competing on the World Cup, Holly posted several top-10 individual finishes and was a member of the U.S. women’s relay team that won a historic bronze medal in 2012. She won two U.S. national championships, as well as the American Birkebeiner. As a mountain runner in Alaska, she has claimed races at Mount Marathon, Lost Lake, Bird Ridge and Government Peak. Holly also is involved with the Fast and Female group and is a spokesperson for Healthy Futures, where she has spent countless hours helping inspire kids in Alaska and beyond. Holly, who is from Washington state, is pursuing a counseling psychology degree at APU and is interested in becoming a sports psychologist.

Essentially a sixth Salmon Run, this 5k, pursuit-style race follows last year’s format with head starts based on your age and gender. That means anybody could win! To get your head start you MUST register online. Race-day registrants will start in the LAST wave.
Don’t like the idea of being “pursued?” Do you want to run with a friend or family member with different demographics? No problem. Just check the box indicating you would like to start in the last wave, and you will get the regular timing format we all know and love.

The Administrator Showdown for the Battle of Binkley will be settled at the Fountain of Youth race! Kenai Peninsula Borough Mayor Mike Navarre vs. Kenai Peninsula Borough School District Superintendent Sean Dusek. Come cheer on your local bureaucrats!

Come run the singletrack bike trail (Mosquito) from the Wolverine (K-Beach) Trailhead up to Skyview and back. At approximately 6 kilometers, this run features lots and lots of hills. You’re welcome.

Calling all kids 15 years old and younger — the Kenai Kardinal has a challenge for you: ARE YOU FASTER THAN A KARDINAL? Come race against the Kenai mascot in a fun 3k at Tsalteshi Trails. There will be great prizes and all racers will receive a Healthy Futures finisher medal.
