Trail conditions as of April 26, 2025:

Welcome to the weird world of weather! We were still skiing at the end of April last year. This year? The trees are budding, the ground is rapidly thawing and a pair of mallards have claimed the pond off Coyote. It won’t be long before the trails are ready for summer!

Some trails are drying faster than others. Here’s a rundown of what to expect if you head to Tsalteshi:

Singletrack trails are closed. Our STX maintenance crew is heading out Monday to evaluate conditions. They’ll likely open in a week or two.

All main trails are open to foot traffic, fat-tire bikes and dogs. Please avoid obviously wet spots to not leave ruts or holes. Find trail maps on our website. Or check us out on Nordic Pulse for trail reports and maps.

K-Beach: The parking lot is dry with a few potholes.

  • Wolverine has a few soggy spots but is overall in good shape for foot traffic and fat-tire bikes, and decent shape for mountain bikes.
  • Avoid Porcupine — that’s the wettest of all the trails and usually isn’t ready for traffic until midsummer.
  • Heading up the hills, Goat is in good shape. Bear has its usual wet/lumpy spots near the top of the uphill but is drying fast.
Skyview: The fields around the school are a little damp yet but in good shape.
  • Wolf and Moose are in rough shape — muddy with frost heaves. The worst of the muddy/rough spots can be avoided on the edge of the trail but don’t expect smooth walking for a couple more weeks yet.
  • Fox is in great shape for foot traffic and biking.
  • Lynx is wet at the start but in good shape from the first uphill on.
  • Coyote and Raven are in good shape. Say “hi” to the mallards!
  • Beaver is best avoided for another couple weeks.
  • Squirrel and Owl are damp but not bad. More soggy than muddy.

Slikok: The parking lot is in better shape than the trails.
  • Big Bang is rough in either direction from the trailhead but passable on the side of the trail.
  • String Theory and Relativity are in fair to rough shape.
  • Avoid Event Horizon for a couple more weeks.
  • Dark Energy from Issak Road is in the best shape — damp but free of major frost heaves.
  • If anyone wants to give Productivity Hiking a try, take a trash bag for a stroll at Slikok. Remains of the eagles’ winter landfill snacks are strewn throughout.
Deadfall: We’ve got a few trees down throughout the trails — on Wolf at the top of Lynx, another on Lynx, one on the Beaver downhill, a small tree at the start of Owl, one on Big Bang and one on Relativity. We’ll get clearing this week.

Wildlife: Lots of moose postholes on the trails and one (calm) mama munching alongside Wolf. Remember that calving season is coming up and moose will need an extra wide berth after birth. There’s still some caribou scat out there, as well. No bear sign yet.

Want to help Tsalteshi shake off winter? Now’s a great time for trash pickup and alder trimming from the sides of the trails. And our singletrack maintenance crew is always looking for more recruits. Please let us know if you can help!
