Bear Alert
A bear cub was spotted on the trails this past Sunday morning around the Wolf/Weasel area. Please use caution and bring your bear spray!
Moose Alert
There's a cow with two calves hanging out on Wolverine and she is cranky! She has already followed and charged someone out walking. Keep an eye and ear out for the family if you're in that area. If you see them, give mom lots of space! And dogs absolutely must be on a leash in that area. We don't want any people, dogs or moose to be injured. She will hopefully chill out as the babies get a little bigger, but not if she continues to be spooked by people, dogs or bikes. Let's let her get over the new-baby jitters in peace. Tsalteshi opens new maintenance building
[caption id="attachment_4681" align="alignright" width="241"] Ricky Gease, director of the Alaska Division of Parks and Outdoor Recreation, talks about the importance of outdoor recreation as a driver of Alaska's economy.[/caption] Tsalteshi Trails Association is thrilled to welcome the newest member of the TTA family — Hetl Qenq'a, which means "Sled House" in Dena'ina. The new 36-by-60-foot maintenance and storage building replaces our 20-year-old, 16-by-24-foot snowmachine shed. The shed could barely fit TTA's active snowmachines, had no space to work on machines and couldn't fit any of our other equipment. The new building has dry, heated and secure storage for all our equipment, plus room to grow. It will increase the lifespan of our grooming machines — and likely our groomers. 3rd annual Tour of Tsalteshi, Feb. 16, 2020
This year's Tour of Tsalteshi is Sunday, Feb. 16 at the trailhead behind Skyview Middle School. The 40-kilometer freestyle race — two laps around the trails — starts at 11:30 a.m. A 20-kilometer race — one lap around the trails, with freestyle and classic divisions — starts shortly thereafter. Prizes will be awarded for the first three men and women finishers in each race and raffle drawings will be available to all participants. Awards will be given at a post-race party at Kenai River Brewing in Soldotna. Discounts available for early registration, TTA members and members of neighboring ski clubs. Tsalteshi Iceman Triathlon, Feb. 29
Show winter who’s boss in the Iceman Triathlon. The fastest time to complete three full loops wins — 7.5K ski, 4.5K fat bike or 4.5K run. You can choose to just ski, just bike, just run or any combination of the three. Here's where it gets interesting: Total race times adjusted with the following modifiers: 4 minutes off of each lap skied 6 minutes off of each lap run 30 seconds off each transition made (45 seconds if it involves ski gear) 1 minute off for a full ski/bike/run triathlon Strategery!
