Recap-Robert Johnson Memorial Ski Clinic

Blog, Uncategorized
Todays ski clinic was a lot of fun for the brave souls who faced the blizzard to participate.  If you did not know Robert Johnson he worked at Beemun's for years helping so many of us get started in skiing.  Brent Knight and Zach Hall came down from Anchorage to lead the instruction for the event.  Both of these guys are amongst the nation's best skiers and grew up locally.  Besides being great skiers they are great guys who volunteered their time to give back to their community.  Beemun's provided free ski rentals with helpful staff and Kaladi Brother's provided hot drinks.  Brent and Zach also brought some free swag from their race sponsors (Atomic and Powerbar).  All proceeds went to TTA's Youth Ski Program. On Friday, being in the forest will be a downright frightening experience, as the living dead will be walking and running during the Tsalteshi Trails Association’s Spook Night. “This will make it different than just putting on your running gear,” said Carly Reimer, one of the organizers of the event, which will feature a five-kilometer Zombie Run for adults and a one-kilometer Trick or Treat Trail for boys and ghouls. “We’ve always had a kickoff event around this time. Usually it’s an orienteering event, which can be challenging and a bit daunting for some people, so we wanted this to be more of a community membership drive separate from that. We’ll still…

Good ‘tri’ — Triathlon sees wide growth in 2nd running

Story and photos courtesy of Jenny Neyman, Redoubt Reporter, copyright 2011. Alisa Kincaid kicks to the finish ahead of and Katy Rosane in Sunday’s Tri-the-Kenai at Skyview High School. The second year of the Tri drew 210 racers and 120 volunteers. “They say the best thing you can do to exercise your heart is reach out to people. If that’s the case, this event is nothing but heart,” said Greg Russell, co-director of the Tri-the-Kenai triathlon held Sunday at Skyview High School in Soldotna. Pounding-from-exertion heart for the 200-plus racers who gave it their all, perhaps. But heart, nonetheless. “They should change the name to tri-hill-a-thon,” said Yvonne Henrickson, of Anchorage. She and Mona Bremont heard about Tri-the-Kenai while doing the Gold Nugget Triathlon in Anchorage in May, and decided…
